A gate valve is a valve in which the gate closure moves in the vertical direction along the centerline of the channel.
The structure of the gate valve is relatively simple, generally composed of several parts of the valve body, valve seat, valve stem, ram, valve cover, sealing ring, the structural characteristics of the gate valve make it can only do full open or full close operation in the pipeline, and can not be adjusted and throttle valve body is provided with a plane ram that is perpendicular to the flow direction of the medium, and the passage of the medium is opened or closed by the lifting of this ram.
It is widely used, and many gate valves are installed in the system of feed water, main steam, condensate, extraction steam, air, circulating cooling water, shaft cooling water, etc. Gate valves are widely used in oil, natural gas and other transmission pipelines.
Merit:
1. Low flow resistance. The medium channel inside the valve body is straight, the medium flows in a straight line, and the flow resistance is small;
2. The movement direction of the ram is perpendicular to the flow direction of the medium, the pressure is small, and the opening and closing are more labor-saving;
3. It is not easy to produce water hammer;
4. The gate valve channel is symmetrical on both sides, and the medium can flow in any direction on both sides, which is easy to install;
5. The structure length is short, the manufacturing process is good, and the application range is wide.
Shortcoming:
1. The cover is easy to wear, which affects the service life of the valve;
2. The gate needs to be completely opened and closed, and the opening and closing stroke of the gate is large and the opening and closing time is long.
